How To Create a Beautiful Spring Brunch Tablescape

Throughout the years, something I have loved to do is to throw a fun get together with my girlfriends. Whether it’s a Bachelor viewing party or a Sunday brunch, I find that I thrive in the “party-throwing” category… maybe I should have been an event planner. ;)

Emma recently mentioned that she feels millennials tend to host things very casually – get togethers include either a potluck, ordering a pizza or throwing a BBQ. I told her that if she really wanted to learn how to host a beautiful brunch, then I would take the time to teach her.

The secret to hosting anything is truly about paying attention to the small details. The first step is designing and sending out invites. YES I’m talking about snail mail. Of course, send a text to all the different people that you would like to invite beforehand, but sending a beautiful invitation as well is not only more personal, but a beautiful start to a special occasion. I ordered mine from Zazzle.com, but you can order them from anywhere! Emma and I loved the little peaches and the script.

With all of my get togethers, I usually like to greet my friends with some sort of drink/cocktail to help set the mood. Since I can’t hire a server in a 3 piece suit.. ;)  I set up a mimosa station using my bar cart. If you don’t have a bart cart, a small table will do and if you aren’t into cocktails you can hold a tea/coffee station or lemonade station instead. It’s more about offering your friends something when they first walk in.

It was so much fun creating this tablescape with Emma and her friend, Maddy. One thing I definitely wanted to teach to Emma was how to set a formal place setting. MacKenzie-Childs just launched their new all-white “Sweetbriar” line of dinnerware and accessories which I’m obsessed with. I love the flower details and the feminine design – it was the perfect set for a girls brunch. To compliment the white dinnerware properly, I chose the gold Scroll placemat and Sweetbriar runner to lay on my cool gray french inspired table. I love the warm tones and texture of the placemat and runner. Both are so elegant. The gold and silver theme is taken even a bit further with the Gold Courtly Check Flatware and the Silver and Gold Sweetbriar Napkin Rings. The combination in the accessories pulls everything together.

As many of you know, I am a flower queen. ;) I have a wide range of favorites, and these arrangements include many of them. We specifically wanted an “English country garden” type of arrangement. It’s look is one that I love because of it’s loose/cottage style. While I love flowers, I never said that I’m a perfect arranger.. Making an arrangement can be extremely easy if you just let go of what you think it should look like. I wing all of my floral arrangements. If I compared myself to my flower expert friends I would never get anything done. ;) One thing I’ll add – I personally like multiple low arrangements sitting on a table rather than one large centerpiece. Not only are they easier to style, I find they balance out a long table perfectly and their height allows for easy conversation. I hate having a tall arrangement getting in the way.  Some of the flowers we used today include Ranunculus, Roses, Tulips, and my Mom’s favorite.. Freesia.

Loved creating this colorful spread of goodies and savory foods. This will compliment our main entree of Frittata and Fingerling potatoes perfectly. I find that most of my friends like to try different things , so I tend to include small items that people can sample and enjoy. It’s always fun including a little decorative cake from the bakery and dressing it with leftover flowers from your arrangements as well. Emma and Maddy loved adding a few to our little cake today. Such an easy “oooh!” moment that everyone loves.

For our main entree, we cooked a veggie frittata today. This is a recipe that I snagged from Ina Garten, The Barefoot Contessa years ago and everyone loves it. Whenever I don’t have time however, the frozen quiche at Trader Joe’s is a perfect substitute.  I told Emma… it’s more important to get together with friends than letting a little cooking get in the way.  You just need to figure out what works for your schedule and adapt. ;)
I’ll share the easy recipe below. I used my favorite star dish that I bought years ago to bake the frittata in.. one of my most asked-for sources. I baked the classic fingerling country potatoes in Emma’s new Flower Market Casserbole dish – One of our favorite pieces!
