My New Fireplace with Kathy Kuo Home ~

Sooo excited to share with you a little about the newly crisp updated look my fireplace is sporting…

A few years ago we built our beautiful home and I’ve loved almost everything about it.

I was able to choose the flooring, carpet and everything in the home ‘except’ the fireplace surround.

This killed me as a hated what the builder installed.  The builder put the same rock from the outside of my home around my fireplace.

Although I know many have rock fireplaces and love how it looks,

it just doesn’t fit my style.

As a result I’ve tried to do everything I can to detract attention from it.

Last week I finally decided to whip out my paint brush and go to town painting it the same white as my built-ins and kitchen cabinets.

Whether you’re a fan of painted rock or brick or not… I just knew I couldn’t look at that taupe/ashy chalky color of the rock any longer.

Newly painted I wanted something unique to place in front of the fireplace…

I decided to go with Kathy from KathyKuoHome for the decor because I love her online boutique for the mix of furniture, home decor and lighting they offer.

You can shop for a specific look in one of their collections or you can mix whatever you want to find your own personalized look.

I’ve worked with Kathy before and love her style and approach.

I originally called Kathy because I had wanted to order a beautiful steel top kitchen table with a refurbished base a couple of years ago.  She helped me personally and guided me to finding the perfect side chairs that complimented both the table and my home.

I was thrilled!  It’s because of this experience that I decided to look at her online boutique first.

The set of two turquoise Asian inspired porcelain temple jars are the perfect home decor pieces to place in front of my fireplace.

When they arrived I was so excited because they matched everything perfectly.  They’re large and I adore the way they give my fireplace surround the upscale polished look I was craving!

Here are a few of the before-and-after shots of my fireplace.

Love everything about how it’s looking…

from the paint color to my new gorgeous jars!

    1. Thank you Sandy! Isn’t it so much lighter? Wouldn’t have known I could love it as much as I do… it only took me a few years! ;) Hugs! xo

    1. Thanks Alicia! I thought so as soon as my paintbrush hit the stone! ;) haha… Thanks for your comments! Hugs! xo

  1. I love it! The fireplace, the urns, love how bright it is. The contrast between the wall color and the white makes the fireplace even more of a focal point. The icing on the cake though is your adorable little dog!!! Beautiful as always!!!

    1. I just cannot help it! ;) I can’t turn him away and he is always THERE! Lol. Thanks Noelle! Hugs and Happy Wednesday! xo

    1. Hi Lori! Thank you! If you just click on the box on the front of my Blog that says, ‘Paint colors in My Home’ it lists all! Thanks Lori! Hugs! xo

  2. It looks great, Kristy! It really flows with the rest of your house now. I love the porcelain temple jars too. Cal seems to approve of them as well! :) You did a fantastic job and should be very proud of your work!

    1. Thanks Lisa! I’m totally excited and love the new look too. Those jars are to die for and I can’t even believe how great they make the space look! Hugs and thanks again! xo

  3. Such a brave move and so worth it!! People are so scared of white yet it looks better 100% of the time!! I adore it!!

    1. Thanks Jayme! I was a little worried but then decided I’d never know unless I went through with it! Thanks so much! Hugs! xoxo

  4. Love the white and those gorgeous blue pots! Can you tell me what breed Cal is? Not quite sure. Such a cutie!

    1. Hi Anne, Cal is a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. He is trimmed short in a summer cut. He’s a love bug and very sensitive… :) Thanks so much for your sweet comments. Hugs! xoxo

    1. HA! Right? Sooo funny you say it that way because I wouldn’t even want it at a lake house… ;) BUT, that’s just me! Lol.
Hugs and you’re the sweetest with always the greatest of encouragement! xoxo

  5. No guts, no glory. You had the guts to paint it white – now you have the glory to walk by it every day and think, why didn’t I do this sooner. :) I LOVE it. New to your blog, but look forward to your posts.

    1. Great Teri! Thanks for dropping by! Thanks so much for commenting and I love it…! No guts is right! So mad I didn’t do this sooner! ;) Hugs gf! xo

    1. I Know Sue! I agree with you!!! :) I want to do it and just need to figure out how…

The molding guys say it’s a hard one because of the edges of the rock on the inside edge of the actual fireplace part… otherwise I would have done that at the very start.
They quoted me $2,000! And more than 1 guy said the same thing.
My hubby is amazing at all (he can build anything and fix anything) but we’d have to do it right if we are messing with the actual structure in such a main room.
Hugs and I really love that you mentioned this! Thanks so much! xo

  6. Love the jars – they are a perfect choice!!! And I’m amazed at what a little (white) paint can do!!! Looks fabulous Kristy!!

    1. Thanks Jennifer! Sooo much fun that you yourself can make such a difference in your home with just a can of paint with a baseball game on in the background. ;) We really love the lighter room! Hugs gf! xoxo

  7. I love it! I’ve seen plenty of white painted brick, but can’t recall seeing painted stone before. I love how the shapes and textures are still there… but it’s such a clean, crisp white.

    1. Thanks so much Karen! Wasn’t sure I’d like it but I figured I may as well try. :) It fits my style so much more. Hugs and Happy 4th! xoxo

    1. Cal is an awful lot like a stuffed animal I have to admit… ;) Thanks so much Marijean! Hugs… xoxo

  8. Paint works magic doesn’t it! It really changed the whole feel of your room. Looks beautiful Kristy. What a find those jars were. Perfect color and size. What a treat seeing sweet Cal awake!

    1. Haha! You are so funny Allison… it isn’t often cal’s awake. ;)
Thanks so much and yes, everything looks much brighter and better painted. The jars are incredibly beautiful… my new favorite thing! :)
Hugs and have a great 4th! xoxo

    1. Thanks Jen! I love it so much too and I’m really surprised how ‘classy’? it looks painted. I didn’t want it to have that ‘DIY for the weekend’ project kind of look and my friends agree that it looks so much more polished and gorgeous. You inspire me with all your amazing projects and this is my baby steps way of inching toward you! Ha! ;) I adore you and wish you a beautiful 4th! xo
