Renovation Update and Favorite Bathroom Mirrors

Hi everyone! Thought I would give you a renovation update as well as provide a few details on several of my favorite bathroom mirrors. I’ve had so much going on with the house reno that I feel as if my head is spinning some days. There’s just always something interesting going on. A top tip that I would give anyone who is looking to renovate any part of their house, is find people who are qualified to do the right job. My tiler was telling me a story about how getting his bathroom updated was one of the worst experiences for him. He told me to make sure if I get in contact with anyone to get the job done, asking about whether they have undertaken courses such as citb smsts or have any qualification in construction is always beneficial, especially before they get to work. This will work out in your favour.

Before I get into all of that… I’d like to open up a little about my blogging. (or maybe I should say lack of blogging...) I’ve been trying to figure out why I’ve been dragging my feet with writing my posts. I love a beautifully well written blog post like the next person but if I’m being completely honest, I feel it’s what keeps me from posting… I put way too much pressure on myself to try and make everything look as polished and perfect as possible. Who lives that way? Certainly not me…

Sooooo with that being said, I’ve decided to throw caution to the wind and make my posts a little more casual. More personable. I have far too many topics to discuss to let something like that get in the way.

If you caught any of my Insta-stories yesterday you may have noticed that we are in the midst of tiling our master bathroom. What I didn’t discuss is that we had an issue with my shower pan tile choice.

Who knew that the tightly woven marble basket weave that I had originally planned to place on both the bathroom floor and shower floor would not be the best solution for the shower pan? Because my tile choice has such a tight basket weave (one that I LOVE, btw), it doesn’t allow for much grout. The marble pieces won’t slope well enough to properly place around a drain. (Really?) My tiler said they simply won’t work for the pan. Ugh!

Who knew that having room for grout is so important? Shower floors really do need a good grip for the feet however and having something that can be manipulated and placed around a drain is important. My tiler and I ultimately came to a compromise and decided to use the basket weave as a border and fill the center of the shower pan with 2″ x 2″ Thassos marble tiles. These should work well and although it’s not my first choice, it’s one I can live with.

With the bathroom coming together I really need to get a move on with choosing my mirrors. To help narrow my choices a bit I’ve included a few of my favorite bathroom mirrors from Wisteria Home Decor (they have a spend more/get more sale going on) as well as several inspirational bathrooms to give me ideas. My favorite bathroom mirrors make statements and set the overall mood in a space. This weekend I’ll be on the lookout for 2 mirrors for my master bathroom, 1 for the guest bath and 1 for the powder room. I’m leaning toward a mix of rustic in some spaces and shiny and polished in others. I’ll let you know what I find…
