Making a healthy snack does not need to be time consuming. As a matter of fact, it’s no hidden secret that I will not be on Top Chef anytime soon. ;) Head to Fraiche Nutrition for that one… For me, I find that it’s all about grab-and-go or quick and easy. This is why I have decided to share my 5 healthy feel-good snacks that I love to eat every day with all of you…
Eating healthier has been one of my biggest goals this year. Knowing this, many of you have asked me to share more of what I eat during the day because I usually just feature what Jeff is cooking each night. What sustains me isn’t really exciting enough to share on stories each day, but I figured that you may want to see a little list of some of my favorite snacks here..
Snack #1: Avocado Toast with Hard-Boiled Egg
One of my favorite “millennial” snacks (Thanks Emma’s generation!) is most definitely the avocado toast. I LOVE it. There are so many variations of this toast, but my favorite is classic & easy. Snag a piece of toast, spread avocado on it, add a hard-boiled egg, and sprinkle some salt & pepper. It’s really that simple. I usually have all of these items in the house at any given time anyways, so making this snack is never a huge ordeal for me. Another way to make this healthier is to ditch the bread and exchange it for a rice cake instead. Not as delicious but still so good. :)
Ingredients:
- Whole Grain Bread (any kind will work!)
- 1 Avocado
- 1 Hard-Boiled Egg
- Kosher Salt & Pepper
- Any toppings you may want to add.. I love a little Siracha or red peppers on top!
Instructions
- Cut your bread in half. Toast by throwing in a toaster or oven.. whichever you prefer. :)
- Cut avocado into slices. You can make this toast pretty by adding the perfect slices of avocado straight onto the bread, or by adding the avocado mushed as a spread.
- Slice hard-boiled egg into 2-4 parts and place desired amount on top of the avocado.
- Sprinkle with salt & pepper and add any favorite toppings
Snack #2: Almonds
Poor Emma and Jeff. They both are allergic to tree nuts and can’t enjoy one of my favorite snacks: almonds. Almonds are the simplest of snacks, yet delicious, and they sustain you for long periods of time. Eating a small amount of almonds per day (up to 23) provides you with enormous health benefits – large amounts of Vitamin E, Calcium, Magnesium, and Potassium. They also provide a significant amount of protein and fiber, and are low in sugar. What’s not to love?! As a former flight attendant, this was one of my go to staples for energy.
Snack #3: Frozen Blueberry Yogurt Chips
Do you find yourself craving something sweet in the middle of the day or at night? If so – this is one of my favorite substitutes for the unhealthy treat. It’s a simple mix of frozen yogurt and blueberries and oh so yummy.
Ingredients
- 1 cup vanilla flavored greek yogurt
- 1 tbsp of stevia (or your favorite sugar substitute)
- 1 pack of blueberries
- toothpicks & baking sheet
Instructions
- Remove blueberries out of packaging – wash thoroughly.
- Scoop 1 cup vanilla greek yogurt into mixing bowl and add 1 tbsp of stevia.
- Dip your blueberries into the greek yogurt mix using a toothpick, and once it’s fully coated, use another toothpick to drop the blueberry onto a baking sheet/plate.
- Once you have all your blueberry/greek yogurt chips on the plate, place them in the freezer for 10-20 minutes.
- Serve!
Snack #4: Edamame & Teriyaki Sauce
Another extremely easy go-to snack of mine – edamame. I like to buy mine shelled because I love to dip them in my favorite sauces without the mess. The sauce I love the most is Veri Veri Teryaki (Low Sodium version) because it’s so flavorful. This go to snack takes only a few minutes and it’s a favorite with family and friends. Hint: We always microwave our edamame for several minutes with a damp paper towel covering the edamame for a few minutes before serving. Before serving add a little salt and paper on top and that’s it!
Snack #5: Sliced Tomatoes with Crumbled Feta Cheese & Olive Oil
The last of my quicks and easy healthy snacks features my all time favorite veggie, the tmatoe. I’m going to share may be my favorite of all. Anyone who knows me, knows how much I love tomatoes. I used to tell Emma that I love tomatoes raw, cooked, friend, any which way. (Just bite into the side like an apple! ;) A delicious way to serve tomatoes like a snack is to pair them with some crumbled feta cheese on top and a little olive oil drizzled over the sides… yummmm. The steps are easy.. Just slice up a tomato and add your favorite cheese & toppings. I included some fresh basil leaves, feta, olive oil, and salt and paper on mine.

I like cottage cheese topped with 4 slices strawberryβs 6 pecans. So good ?
Yum Katrice! I used to make this all the time and need to make it again soon. It sounds so good with the nuts… xo
I love multi colored grape tomatoes sliced in half then marinated in half green chili oil, half plain olive oil ( so not too spicy) . Then finely chop fresh basil and you can also thinly slice jalapeΓ±os (optional for those who like it hot).. then serve on top of thinly sliced crusty bread or little toast crackers. Yum!!
This sounds amazing!!
